Hot Dr. Pepper: Delicious treat or soft drink disaster?

Interesting find from Retronaut, Hot Dr. Pepper was a wintertime treat? in the 1960′s.

The beverage seems simple enough to prepare: heat Dr. Pepper in a saucepan until it steams and pour it over a thin slice of lemon.

I know it’s summer, but my curiosity has kicked in and now I want to try Hot Dr. Pepper.

Have any of you tried it? If so, thoughts?
