Nashville restaurant owner dies in walk-in freezer accident

Jay Luther, the 47-year-old co-owner of Germantown Café East, was found dead inside a walk-in cooler at the restaurant Monday morning.

A power outage at 5th and Main, the condominium development that is home to the restaurant, kept Germantown Café East closed for the weekend. Management kept dry ice in the walk-in freezer to preserve food.

Police believe the cooler door shut behind Luther, who did not have a cell phone on him, as he checked on the food Sunday evening. Police think the dry ice may have caused carbon dioxide to displace oxygen in the cooler

Police do not suspect foul play.
