Police standoff ends in gunfire after suspect takes bathroom break

Lance Wetzel began a standoff with police in an Omaha neighborhood, accused of illegal possession of a firearm and violating a protection order filed by his estranged wife.

3 1/2 hours into the standoff Wetzel left his car to urinate and police jumped at the chance to end the situation. A deputy officer tased Wetzel, failing to subdue him.

Wetzel then grabbed a nearby shotgun, pointing it a police before another deputy shot him with a rifle, striking him in the abdomen and arm.

Wetzel will now be charged with multiple offenses after he’s released from the hospital where he’s recovering from his wounds.

The humor in the man’s name is not lost on me
